Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was a brave Indian freedom fighter and the first Deputy Prime Minister of India, known for uniting the country.Patel’s strategy for integration involved a combination of diplomacy, persuasion and when necessary force. He convinced the princely states to accede to the Indian Union by signing the “Instrument of Accession” which allowed states to join India while retaining control over internal matters.Some of Patel’s notable achievements include –

• Sardar Patel’s integration of Hyderabad was achieved through Operation Polo, a swift military action in 1948 annexing Hyderabad into India .
• Sardar Patel’s integration of Junagadh was achieved through a plebiscite in February 1948 where 99.95% voted to join India.
• Sardar Patel established the All India Services including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Foreign Service (IFS) to promote national unity and administrative efficiency.

Bal Gangadhar Tilak was born on July 23, 1856 in Ratnagiri. He studied at Pune’s Deccan College and Bombay University graduating in law and mathematics shaping his future.Tilak’s contribution to the indian nationalist movement can be summarised as follows  –

1. Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s “Advocate for Swaraj” emphasized India’s right to self rule demanding complete independence from British colonial rule and inspiring Indians to fight for their freedom.
2. The Home Rule Movement led by Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Annie Besant in 1916 aimed to achieve self government for India within the British Empire promoting Indian autonomy.
3. Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s Revival of Indian Festivals aimed to unite Indians through cultural celebrations like Ganesh Chaturthi and Shivaji Jayanti promoting national pride and identity.
