Types of Plate Tectonic Boundaries –

• Convergent Boundaries occur where two plates move toward each other. This collision leads to subduction zones, mountain range formation and volcanic activity. Examples include the Pacific Ring of Fire where subduction zones create continental crust while destroying oceanic crust and reshaping Earth’s surface.
• Divergent Boundaries occur where two plates move apart, creating new crust. As magma rises to fill the gap, ocean ridges form. The Mid Atlantic Ridge is a prime example where new oceanic crust emerges as the Eurasian and North American plates diverge.
• Transform Boundaries occur where two plates horizontally slide past each other. This movement causes earthquakes and fault formation but no new crust is created. The San Andreas Fault in California is a prominent example where the Pacific and North American plates continuously slide past each other.

Divergent boundaries create new crust, convergent boundaries cause subduction and volcanic activity and transform boundaries result in earthquakes and faulting.
